Whereas a calibration of the spectral responsivity of such radiometers is in general not possible or too extensive, two main measurement procedures for the calibration of the weighted actinic irradiance response have been established. The calibration of the radiometers should be traceable to the international system of units (SI) which is realized by national metrological institutes (NMI) such as the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Braunschweig, Germany (PTB). The reliability of such monitor detectors must be periodically checked using so called reference radiometers. Broadband radiometers representing the defined actinic action spectrum are therefore used to monitor the systems. UV water disinfection plants require permanent control and monitoring of the applied actinic weighted irradiance inside the reactor. Peter Sperfeld, Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)
